The Plough Inn, Eynsford, Kent

January 22, 2012 By John

The Plough Inn, Eynsford, nr Dartford, Kent

We were meeting my friend, Simon, who was travelling from Southend. This meant I had to find somewhere quite easy for us all to meet. I settled on The Plough in Eynsford, Dartford. The reviews online seemed good, so I thought it would be worth a shot.

It was in a very nice area, with a small stream running next to the road outside. Inside had the feel of a high quality gourmet country pub, with a light and fresh feel, as well as proper fur skins covering the chairs!

The food was excellent, as was the service. An excellent, top rated Sunday lunch which would be perfect for special occasions and celebrations.

The Black Swan, Ockham

The Black Swan, Ockham, Surrey

As we were over in Ascot, I wanted to find a lunch to have on the way home to Bromley. I found The Black Swan in Ockham, Surrey and booked it through Open Table (the booking engine on their website) for 12:45pm.

We arrived earlier than expected, so took the opportunity to relax with papers in a chair in front of the open fire. We were shown to a very small table, so I was thankful that when someone moved we could change to a different one. The Sunday lunch here was very good, although the vegetables were a bit strange – having a large amount of red cabbage and not much else. The meat was excellent quality though.

Overall, a recommended Sunday lunch in Ockham – just remember to bring a large wallet.

The George, Hayes, Kent

The George, Hayes, Bromley, Kent outside image

One of the many things I enjoy about living close to family is that we can experience a great Sunday lunch together. Since The George in Hayes was my great-grandmother’s favourite pub, it is quite well known in my family. I hadn’t been for many years, so I was looking forward to trying them out. I wasn’t disappointed. The decoration inside the venue was dark, moody and sumptress. The service was excellent and the food very good. I can understand why my great-grandmother enjoyed it here so much!

Highly recommended

The Bickley, Chislehurst

Outside image of The Bickley, Chislehurst, Kent

Looking for a Sunday lunch in Chislehurst, Bromley, we settled on a gastropub called The Bickley.

The service here was top notch, being greeted at the door and shown to our table downstairs. All the staff were welcoming, saying hello as we walked past!
The Sunday roast was brought out extremely quickly. The roast lamb and pork belly were excellent, and the potatoes were crispy. The vegetables were too oily for our liking but the gravy made up for it. The dessert was HUGE!

Overall, a recommended award for Sunday lunch at The Bickley in Chislehurst.

The Clarendon, Notting Hill

The Clarendon, Notting Hill

We needed to have a Sunday lunch in London and having an email from the manager at The Clarendon, Notting Hill, we decided to have a go.

The service here was excellent, being shown to our tables and helping as much as needed. The decor was great, with a very large clock almost taking up one wall. The Sunday lunch quality was top notch. It was a shame that we were served jus instead of gravy as Claire and I like lashings of it (which meant we needed another jug).

Overall, a highly recommended Sunday lunch in Notting Hill.
