The Crown Inn, Chislehurst

October 16, 2011 By John

The Crown Inn image of the outside

The Crown Inn is on Chislehurst Common, one of 3 pubs in close proximity (the others being The Tiger’s Head and The Bull Hotel). This pub would be popular with sport fans, as a large TV was on in the pub area. The Sunday roast was ok, with large slices of meat and quite crispy potatoes. The vegetables were alright, although the gravy was a bit too powdery for my liking.

Unfortunately, what let The Crown Inn down was the CCTV in the toilets! But, it is a reasonably priced Sunday lunch in Chislehurst.

The Haven Arms, Ealing

The Haven Arms, Ealing

We were looking for another Sunday lunch in Ealing and found The Haven Arms.

The roast pork wasn’t available (at 2pm!), but the roast chicken tasted excellent, the best flavour for a long time. The potatoes were a bit dry and there were strange inconsistencies of the vegetables. The service was a bit slow too… It would be best to book in advance as it was extremely busy when we were there.

We would like to give it another go earlier in the day as it may have just been a one off… Overall, Sunday lunch at The Haven Arms scores a respectable 3.5/5 plates.

The Clarendon, Notting Hill

The Clarendon, Notting Hill

We needed to have a Sunday lunch in London and having an email from the manager at The Clarendon, Notting Hill, we decided to have a go.

The service here was excellent, being shown to our tables and helping as much as needed. The decor was great, with a very large clock almost taking up one wall. The Sunday lunch quality was top notch. It was a shame that we were served jus instead of gravy as Claire and I like lashings of it (which meant we needed another jug).

Overall, a highly recommended Sunday lunch in Notting Hill.

The Frog & Wicket, Eversley

The Frog & Wicket, Eversley

We visited The Frog & Wickett in Eversley for Sunday lunch because we wanted to meet our friend Mik for his birthday. The Sunday roasts were around £10 each, and we could have as much potatoes, yorkshire puddings and gravy as we liked… this sounded like a great deal, and perfect for us!

The food portion was huge, I have no idea how someone could ask for more roast potatoes! The service was great, always cheerful and happy to help. There was a happy atmosphere, with general good natured local pub characters. If you are looking for a decent Sunday lunch then The Frog & Wickett in Eversley are worth a visit.

The Old Queens Head, Islington

July 7, 2011 By John

The Old Queens Head

Being the sister pub of The Paradise by Way of Kensal Green we decided to review the Sunday roast at The Old Queens Head after receiving an email offer through Keynoir.

Excellent decor, with a quirky feel such as a deer’s head mounted on the wall and chandeliers. The roast beef and lamb were excellent, but there was disappointment with the roast chicken. The apple crumble was excellent.

So, for a Sunday lunch in Islington with friends, we would recommend giving The Old Queens Head a go.
