The British Queen opened recently in Lockbottom, near Chapter One. I have been looking forward to visiting and had a chance one Sunday – so booked for Claire, me and JW, our toddler. The venue had a great atmosphere, lots of hubbub and activity. On the whole, the food quality was very good, and I especially enjoyed the cauliflower cheese (as always), along with the chocolate delice dessert. Definitely one to come along with family, we scored them a fantastic 4.5 / 5.

With The Bickley opening up after a renovation, we were keen to try out their new Sunday lunch. It was difficult to get a table, but managed to book one for midday. The venue itself is much improved, being brightly decorated. Inside has also been improved, opening up the restaurant area to 3 levels. I really liked the styling. The food was ok, slightly cheaper than previously and JW’s kids Sunday lunch was quite good. Service was incredibly slow, but this should be something that’ll improve over time (I hope!). Overall, a decent lunch and one for families in the area.

The Hinds Head in Bray, being a Michelin starred pub, has been on my radar for a while. We had the opportunity to visit just after Christmas, and I am very pleased we did! The service was excellent, as was the food – fois gras was delicious and beautifully presented, the roast beef was wonderful with excellent roast potatoes. We felt it was a venue to take older children to rather than a toddler – this was mostly down to having no background noise to cover up the usual sounds youngsters make. Overall though, a great place and The Hinds Head in Bray scores 4.5 out of 5!

We were looking for a Sunday lunch in Sevenoaks with my Dad and Lesley. A couple of choices were available, but I settled on a Sunday roast at House on the Hill – the swaying factor was having a fish and vegetarian course available. We were pleased with the quality of food and also the service – very welcoming and accommodating. Overall, an excellent Sunday lunch at the House on the Hill.

I booked the Bridge House in Penge, Lewisham on one Sunday – I had actually been there once before and enjoyed the food. I explained the dietary requirements for JW (gluten, wheat and dairy free) and was told all would be ok with the roast, apart from the Yorkshire. In fact, this was incorrect – JW ended up having roast beef and chips, for the same money as a kids roast! Overall, the food was ok, but this mishap really spoilt our experience. Go if you live in the area and do not have any dietary requirements.
