The Eden restaurant is part of a hotel that John and I have wanted to visit for a while now and so booked for Sunday lunch.
As expected, the dining area was lovely, and we liked their attention to detail with slightly unusual cutlery and beautiful flowers on each table. The restaurant also had a nice garden, where we initially sat, but they were preparing for an event so we didn’t get to see as much of the garden as we’d have liked. It was good to enjoy a drink watching the preparations, though. Neither one of us had seen such a detailed bouncy castle before, and were tempted to kick off our shoes and have a go!
The choice of roast was chicken or beef; we both went for the beef. It was presented well with 2 large slices of beef on a bed of roasted onions, served with small, crisp potatoes (the roast potatoes are my favourite part of a roast and these were cooked to perfection, crisp on the outside and fluffy in the middle), a Yorkshire pudding, and roasted carrots. The beef was good quality and a fair sized portion although one slice was slightly pink while the other slice was a little more cooked through. There was also a bowl of green vegetables to share, containing green beans, mange tout and broccoli, all of which were again cooked to perfection (slightly crisp – I can’t stand overcooked vegetables!). There was a small quantity of gravy (well, red wine jus) but not enough for our tastes (can see this is a common theme, maybe we are greedy with regards to gravy?) although we were given extra when we asked.
To conclude, we both very much enjoyed the food. It was quite a simple meal but the ingredients were good quality and cooked well. The staff added to the overall experience. They were attentive though not overbearing, and one lady in particular was really chatty and friendly making us feel welcome and wanted. Another one to add to our recommended list!
